Initial Observation:
Imogen Cunningham, an inspirational and early pioneer of photography from the Pacific Northwest. In the 1920’s she focused on artistic nudes and the study of plant forms, creating a bold and contemporary visual forms.

Final Destination:
I approached this book design with the hope of integrating Imogen’s story with her visual work. Words spice through her images, yet her forms are still seen. The viewer is able to grasp the detail in her piece and gain a sense of the full photograph. Minimal color was used in conjunction with her stark black and white photography, aligning with the book title, “Defining Purity.”
